Rearcross U-12's eventually came out on top with a two nil win against a dogged Sallypark team at Rearcross FC Grounds on Saturday morning. An lively opening to the game saw Cillian Kennedy fire on target but the keeper made the block. The hosts were let off the hook on nine minutes when Cathal Kennedy gathered followed a goalmouth scramble. Cathal Kennedy was in the action again a minute later with a clean catch from a corner kick. A sluggish first half performance from the Rea bhoys had handed the initiative to Sallypark and it took a clinical challenge from Sean Malone at the expense of a corner kick to keep the scoreline intact. Cathal Kennedy was to the fore deep in to stoppage time after charging off his line to keep Rearcross in the game at the half time whistle. The hosts played with more purpose in the second half and were rewarded three minutes in when Patrick Dawson's corner kick broke to Stephen Rochford who prodded home from in front of goals. The visiting side came back at Rearcross as Calthal Kennedy produced another good block to keep Rearcross ahead. Cillian Kennedy had two efforts on target with Patrick Fogarty in the Sallypark goals doing well to knock the latter on to the crossbar before Patrick Dawson followed through but the Sallypark shotstopper was able to make the save. Rearcross got on top towards the end of the tie as a Patrick Dawson layoff saw Eoin O'Connell coming close with a fine curling effort from distance. The green & whites kept the pressure on and a Patrick Dawson corner kick was headed inches wide by Stephen Rochford. Rearcross made sure of the points five minutes from time when Cian O'Toole got on the end of a corner kick to finish the ball to the corner of the net. The visitors nearly reduced the deficit when James Sage's headed effort from a free kick dragged outside the upright. The home side ran out comfortable winners after this and came close to extending their lead when the Sallypark keeper turned Patrick Dawson's low effort outside the post to leave Rearcross two nil winners at the full time whistle.
